Favourite Foods
About once a week we give Iggy a special treat - a small bowl full of peas, which he absolutely adores!  Pop hasn't really got a favourite food - he seems to like anything (although he seems to like leeks, which give him smelly breath!).  They are both very fussy though, and refuse to eat anything that isn't green.  I once tricked Pop into eating a raspberry, and it took him a week to get over the shock...  Have a look and see what we put into Iggy and Pop's Diet.
Greens
Iguanas are strictly herbivorous, so we only feed Iggy and Pop on leafy greens, fruit and vegetables.  We are trying to convince them both that certain foods should NOT be eaten, including TV cables, midget gems, hair, carpet, slippers, fingers, and anything with legs that might be found crawling around the house.
Calcium and Vitamins
Calcium is THE most important ingredient of all iguana diets, as it keeps their bones strong, and prevents them from getting Metabolic Bone Disease.  The most important is Vitamin D, which wild iguanas get naturally from sunlight.  I put a small pinch of "ReptaVite" vitamin and calcium supplement on Iggy and Pop's food twice a week.
Water
Iggy and Pop get most of the water they need from their food.  However, we always give them each a bowl of fresh, clean water every day in case they need a drink.  Although Iggy does occasionally drink his water, I have never seen Pop do so.  Most days I come home to find half his substrate in the bowl, and the water in a puddle on the vivarium floor.
Hand Feeding
Hand feeding Iggy and Pop is great fun!  Iggy prefers to be hand fed (he's just lazy!), and Pop likes it too, although it was about 12 months before he'd take food off us.
Iggy and Pop's Diet
To make feeding easier, we bought a large tupperware bowl and fill it with iguana food.  Each bowl lasts them about three/four days, and includes the following foods which are easily found in local supermarkets (Tesco/Morrisons!)
2 bags of watercress 2 packets of coriander 1 packet of parsley
1 packet of lambs lettuce 1 chinese leaf 1 leek
1 pack of mange tout 1 green pepper 1 green apple
large handful of fresh greens handful of romaine lettuce leaves small handful of kale OR spinach leaves
In addition, we grow some iguana food from seeds in the garden in summer.  These grow well, but need to be covered to protect from slugs, caterpillars, birds, cats, children etc.  We usually grow:
collard greens mustard greens turnip greens
flat leaf parsley coriander lambs lettuce
dandelion leaves (always plenty in the garden!)
